here you can see the toon shader i used in action, both being affected by lights and changing in steps

the way i did this was by using a float curve rather than a color ramp with set colors like most toon shaders do




for the limbs and face i used grease pencil objects parented to the 3d mesh with an object constraint

as you can see, since the constraint can be keyframed i have full control over when parent transforms apply to the limbs

this allows me to both rotate and move them independantly and along with the body
